Internet security is referred to as computer security that exclusively relates to the Internet. The aim of this security is to create measures and rules to prepare against attacks made over the Internet. The Internet is a insecure channel used for exchanging data and leads to an elevated risk of fraud or intrusion, such as phishing which is a criminal fraud process of trying to get sensitive information like passwords, usernames and credit card information by pretending to be an entity that is trustworthy within electronic communication.

The Internet Protocol Suite can be secure with help from cryptographic protocols and methods which have been created to secure communication via the Internet. These protocols include IPsec for network layer security, PGP for email, TLS, and SSL for traffic on the Web.

IPsec Protocol is created using TCP/IP in order to securely protect communication. This was developed by IETF and is a set of security extensions that provide authentication and security by using cryptography at the IP layer. The data is changed to protect the content by using techniques of encryption. The basis of IPsec is formed by two main kinds of transformations which are ESP, also known as Encapsulating Security Payload and AH, also known as Authentication Header. These protocols provide anti-reply service, data origin authentication, and data integrity. These protocols may be use in combination in order to provide a favored set of internet security services or used alone.

The Pretty Good Privacy, also known as PGP, provides a means of confidentiality by message encrypting that is to be sent or data files that will be stored by the use of an encryption algorithm such as CAST-128 or 3DES. Cryptography can be used to protect email by signing email messages, encrypting information between mail servers, and encrypting the email body message for confidentiality.
